Après ses études universitaires, il travaille dans la publicité à Londres et Genève. Pratiquant dessin et peinture dès son jeune âge, il s’y consacre vers 1970; il voyage et peint en Europe, attiré par les lumières du Sud autant que par l’étude des Maîtres.
Dès 1985, il travaille et séjourne plusieurs années à Saint Domingue et à Porto Rico. Michel Gautier a exposé dans plusieurs galeries en Suisse et à l’étranger:
entre autres au « Musée de l’Athénée » (Genève) et au musée « Casa de Bastida » (Saint Domingue).
Il a participé au « Salon des Artistes Français » et au « Salon des Artistes de la Tradition Française » à Paris. Trois fois lauréat du « Salon International d’Art figuratif » (Lausanne).
Son travail s’inscrit dans un métier classique avec une connaissance approfondie de la tradition picturale européenne. Ses oeuvres figurent dans des collections privées en Suisse, France, Italie et Allemagne ainsi qu’aux Etats-Unis.
After receiving his University degree, he works in creative advertising in London and Geneva. Although he began painting as a teenager, he devoted himself to fine arts in 1970.
He travelled and painted in Europe attracted by the light of the Mediterraneen as well as by studying the Masters.
He then spent many years in the latin Caribbean (Santo Domingo and Porto Rico). He now paints mainly in Switzerland and French Riviera. Michel Gautier has had many ehibitions in Switzerland, France and abroad: among them in « Musée de l’Athénée » (Geneva) and « Museo Casa de Bastida » (Santo Domingo).
He took part in the « Salon des Artistes de la Tradition Française » (Paris). Three times prize winner of « Salon International d’Art figuratif » (Lausanne, Switzerland).
His work displays classical mastery as well as a profound knowledge of the Europeen painting tradition. His pictures can be found among private collections in Switzerland, France, Italiy, Germany and the U.S.
